Super Women

Hey Queens,

For so long society has tried to destroy us with their words. They've tried to dim our light, dull our shine and stifle our voices, creativity and intelligence. The color of our skin has become an excuse to disrespect and dehumanize us, yet through it all we manage to hold our heads high and remain strong - not always because we want to but because we have to. It's an unfortunate reality we've been forced into.

We may come in various shades, come from different backgrounds and have had different experiences, but we can no longer allow society to tell our story. If we come together we can begin to change the narrative.

Your skin isn't too light or too dark. Your lips aren't too think. You don't have "good hair" or "bad hair" and you aren't "pretty for a black girl."

It's time we stop settling for less and accepting back handed compliments. We deserve so much more so let's go after it. We need to hold our heads higher and wear our crowns and melanin with confidence. We shouldn't be ashamed of who we are because society says we should be.

We are Superwomen. trendsetters. Sensual. Intelligent. Inspiring. Complex and Powerful.

This post may not be tomorrows' newspaper headline or the next trending topic on Twitter, but I am proud to support and celebrate the melanin beauties below and around the world.
