Baked Spaghetti
Everyone has their go-to meal or snack when they find themselves feeling, HANGRY! Usually I’d go for lasagna, but I figured I'd try something new. Why make regular ole' Spaghetti with meat sauce when you can discover the beauty of Jocelyn's Baked Spaghetti? Although it takes a total of 2 hours and 45 minutes to prepare but, the difference in taste, texture and richness is well worth the wait.
Prep Time: 30 Minutes Cook Time: 2 Hours Resting Time: 15 Minutes
Total Time: 2 Hours 45 Minutes
Here's what you'll need:
3 tbsp of extra virgin oil
1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
1 lb Italian sausage
Salt
Black Pepper
1 cup chopped onions
1/2 cup chopped green peppers
1 tbsp minced garlic
1 1/2 crushed tomatoes (28 ounces), canned
2 tbsp red wine
1/4 cup chicken stock
1 tbsp Italian seasoning
2 tbsp plus 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar
1/8 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
For the Ricotta Filling:
1 (15 ounce) ricotta cheese container
1 large egg
1 1/2 tsp basil, chopped
1/4 cup freshly shredded Parmesan cheese
1/2 tsp salt
For The Remaining Ingredients:
1 (16 ounce) package Spaghetti
3-4 cups mozzarella or Italian blend shredded cheese
parsley for garnish
9x13 baking dish
Ready? Set. Go!
For the Spaghetti Sauce:
1. Follow instructions provided here on today's next post
For the Ricotta Filling:
1. Combine the ricotta cheese, egg, basil, parmesan cheese and salt in a large bowl and mix until combined
2. Set aside
For the Spaghetti Sauce:
1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to boil
2. Add Spaghetti and cook for 8-10 minutes
3. Drain Noodles and rinse with cold water
4. Add sauce to spaghetti and toss to combine
5. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees
For Assembly:
1. Begin layering by adding 1/3 of spaghetti to bottom of the 9x13 baking dish
2. Spread with half ricotta filling
3. Top with a large amount of mozzarella cheese
4. Repeat steps 1-3, ending with cheese
5. Bake for 35-45 minutes or until golden brown and cheese is bubbly and delicious
6. Cool for 10-15 minutes
7. Sprinkle with parsley and cheese
8. Enjoy :)

Side Notes from Joycelyn
DO NOT use the parmesan cheese you find the the bottle on shelves
Add your salt in increments
Try different meat flavors when you're making the sauce - You can try meats like venison, ground turkey … even pepperoni to vary up the flavors.
MAKE IT VEGAN - You can make this vegetarian/ vegan by replacing the meats with vegetables or even lentils and also replacing the chicken-stock with vegetable stock.
You can remove the red wine completely and substitute it with the stock
